TOOL REMIX
Editorial/Research
TOOL REMIX is a self-initiated magazine which tends to explore
new possibilities of tools by offering new perspectives on creating, modifying, and reusing tools. The magazine encourages its
reader to question and to rethink about the fully optimized tools.
The special issue collects stories of individuals and communities who have embraced the ethos of repurposing. From internet artists who utilized glyphs to make up images in the early
computer age, to street drummers who collect buckets and
pans as their custom instruments, each feature story showcases a creative way of looking at our daily tools.

In the special issue about repurposing tools, I want to celebrate how the genius internet artists made full use of the limitation of technology in the earlier computer age and how they make up images by simply rearranging glyphs in text boxes.
Here, I repurposed the most basic elements on the keyboards, characters and glyphs, in three different ways: as components of bigger type, as illustration, and as texture to unify images.
